Happy Happy Mother's Day to all the amazing Moms!!! You ALL ROCK!!

This year I wanted to do something special and kick off our Mother's Day Celeberation with our new Mommy Spotlight, where we highlight and give other moms an opportunity to tell their story on Single Mommy Speaks!

This Super MOM I have known for quite a long time and she is the epitome of HUSTLE! She actually became a single mom along time before I did and I have watched her grow not only as a powerful young woman but a powerful mother. She has fiercely walked this journey of motherhood, through so many obstacles, set backs, embracing changes not only in herself, this world and even with her daughter. Every since I've known her the persistence she has is an inspiring motivation to all mothers. She NEVER STOPPED LOOKING FOR BETTER! SHE NEVER STOPPED REACHING FOR MORE AND SHE NEVER STOPPED THE HUSTLE!

During our Q&A session she had so many amazing things to say about her journey and the things she has experienced. Let's welcome Naomi Trusty to Single Mommy Speaks!!!!

Jennifer: Naomi, we are so glad to have you here for our the Single Mommy Speaks: Mommy Spotlight! I want to dive in to your experience as a single mother and please feel free to be as transparent as possible :

What were your thoughts when you knew you were going to have a baby?

Naomi: I was extremely shocked. The doctor said "Congratulations" and my response was "for what?" lol. I was only 22 years old, still living with my mom, in college, I had no idea how I was going to be a mother.

Jennifer: What are some of the obstacles you face as a single mom?

Naomi: Communicating effectively with my child's father. Balancing work, motherhood and school. Putting "me time' aside without felling guilty about it.

Jennifer: What has this journey through motherhood taught you about yourself?

Naomi: Motherhood has taught me patience. It's not something that can be taught because every mother's experience is different.

Jennifer: What was one of the hardest decisions you had to

make?

Naomi: Taking three years off from school to focus on my child and working. It was an extremely difficult decision to make especially with

me being only 6 credits away from graduating.

Jennifer: Do you have a strong village/support system?

Naomi: OMG!!! My village is the BEST! My mother, father, sister, brother and boyfriend have been there for me and my daughter and I have no idea what I would do without them. I thank them so much for everything they do for me and my daughter. Shout out to my village!!!

Jennifer: What are some things you were able to accomplish in spite of single motherhood?

Naomi: After taking three years off from college, I returned during the Fall 2012 semester and graduated with my Undergraduate degree in Business Administration.

8 Years after receiving my Bachelors Degree, I went on to receive my Masters Degree in HR Management. Even though it has not happened yet, watching my daughter graduate from 8th grade and start high school will be another accomplis

hment. From Pre-K until now, I've been her substitute teacher lol and I am extremely proud of her. (I'm not crying, you're crying)

Jennifer: What are some things you still want to achieve?

Naomi: Eventually, I would love to become SHRM certified. I'm also debating on whether I should go back to school for my Doctorate in HR. And I'm still working on getting a house.

Jennifer: What are  3 of your favorite things you like to do with your child?

Naomi: Watching horror movies together, shopping at Target (lol) and hitting the beach (my daughter LOVES the water)
